What are the materials suitable for plastic gear injection molding?

Nowadays, many high-precision gears are replaced by gears made of plastic materials, because the performance of plastic gears has been much more stable. Plastic gears have many advantages over metal gears. Plastic gears are lighter, quieter, and maintain inherent lubrication. They are durable and corrosion resistant; they can be produced in many types such as bevel gears, offset bevel gears, spiral bevel gears, helical gears, metric gears, metric spur gears, plastic worm gears, etc. So what materials are suitable for plastic gears? Let's take a look:

1. ABS material

ABS plastic and LDPE materials usually cannot meet the performance requirements of plastic gears such as lubrication performance, fatigue resistance, dimensional stability, heat resistance, creep resistance, and chemical corrosion resistance. But it is also used in the field of low-end sports transmission gears such as various toys.

The thermoplastic elastomer molded gears have excellent flexibility and can well absorb the impact load generated by the transmission, making the gears with low noise and more stable operation. Copolyester thermoplastic elastomers are commonly used to mold low-power high-speed transmission gears. Even if such gears are deformed and deviated during operation, they can also reduce running noise.

2. PC material

PC (polycarbonate) has the advantages of excellent impact resistance and weather resistance, high hardness, small shrinkage rate and stable size. However, polycarbonate has poor self-lubricating properties, chemical resistance and fatigue resistance. This material is colorless and transparent, easy to color, and the plastic parts are beautiful. It is still widely used in precision gear transmission of instruments and meters and craft decorations.

3. pom material

pom is the most common gear material, and it has been used for a long time. Its unique material characteristics have always been favored by the industry, and it is the preferred raw material for gear injection molding.

4. PPA material.

PPA (poly-p-phenylene terephthalamide) has high thermal deformation stability, and can maintain its superior mechanical strength, hardness, fatigue resistance and creep resistance in a relatively high temperature range and high humidity environment Change performance. It can still have the ability to work normally under conditions such as high temperature and high humidity that some PA6 and PA66 gears cannot withstand.

5. LCP material

LCP (Liquid Crystal Polymer) has already been successfully applied to micro-fine plastic gears with a small injection modulus. The gears feature good dimensional stability, high chemical resistance and low mold shrinkage. The material is often used to mold tiny plastic gears for watches.

6. PEEK material

PEEK (polyetheretherketone) and modified polymers have been successfully used as high-performance plastics in heavily loaded power transmission gears. This kind of material has the characteristics of high temperature resistance, high comprehensive mechanical properties, strong wear resistance and chemical corrosion resistance, and is the top type of plastic in today's molded gears.

7. PBT material

PBT (polyester) can mold gears with a very smooth surface. The maximum working temperature of unfilled modified plastic parts can reach 150 ℃, and the working temperature of glass fiber reinforced plastic parts can be as high as

170°C. Gears have good transmission performance and are often used in gear structures.
