Properties and heat treatment methods of cold extrusion molding plastic molds

by:Vowin Rapid Prototyping     2023-02-21
Cold extrusion die is a common heat treatment method. The plastic mold processed by this method must have high strength and excellent wear resistance, because the metal will be affected by three directions and uneven pressure during the cold extrusion process, and will be deformed to a certain extent. The mold with good performance can withstand repeated strong pressure without damage, and at the same time has the ability to resist small plastic deformation to ensure that the mold remains stable under strong cold extrusion.

When the mold steel deforms, thermal effects will occur, and the temperature of the mold accessories and the entire mold will increase. The mold material cannot withstand high temperatures, resulting in deformation or even failure. Therefore, it is necessary to ensure high tempering stability of the mold.

In order to meet the performance requirements of the cold extrusion die, pay attention to avoiding carbide segregation of the material, adopt normal process quenching, control a certain amount of retained austenite, and use austempering method as much as possible to avoid different strengths of various parts of the material. Low-temperature stress tempering is carried out during use, and surface strengthening treatment is carried out at the same time.
